Description
Pg. de Gràcia poster is a copy of the original tile of Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. This tile was designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1904 and was intended for Casa Batlló.Finally, due to fabrication being slow, it couldn’t be used there and was instead used to pave the floor of the staff floors in Casa Milà.
The company Escofet was in charge of its manufacture from 1906 to 1964. In 1971 Escofet created an interpretation of the original model but it was a failure! The tile was too big and that meant it broke easily. Originally the tile had a blue hue reminiscent of the sea but the constant exposure to sunlight made it lose its colour.
It is considered the first item of industrial design and is exhibited at MOMA.
